Abstract: This article states the promoting effect of theoretical physics on the development of scientific research and education in a university.And it introduces the theoretical and practical study on promoting the constructing of universities with advantage in science and engineering through the development on the subject of theoretical physics.It also indicate that the development on the fundamental subjects such as theoretical physics is important and necessary to the development of universities with advantage in science and engineering.We enumerate the many measures have been taken by Kunming University of Science and Technology to improve the development of the subject of theoretical physics and to build the teaching system of theoretical physics.We also introduce the great benefits received by the university as a result of these measures.We finally conclude that the development on the subject of theoretical physics can support the constructing of a high level university.
