Abstract
Vibrational energy of traditional ultrasonic solid horn transmits along its axis direction, but some cases,it need to be changed the vibration direction, and to be had a amplification factor. In this paper,a solid horn composed of a uniform rod and conical one with an angle is proposed. In order to investigate the acoustic characteristics of the solid horn, the resonant frequency and amplification factor of this kind of horns are calculated using the finite element method. The calculated results show that the resonant frequency and amplification factor are influenced by length, radius and the angle.Amplification factor of the solid horn with conical output is higher than the one of the solid horn with uniform output, and the amplification factor is mainly influenced by the ratio between the output and the input end faces.Vibration modes, resonant frequencies and amplification factors are measured with Polytec PSV-400 scanning vibrometer for the nine fabricated different angled horns. It shows that the longitudinal vibration is successfully transferred to the output ends via the angled horn and the amplification factors are greater. The tested values are in good agreement with the measured ones.
