Analysis on the operating conditions and effects of artificial precipitation enhancement in Erhai Lake Basin in early summer

  • The NCEP 1°×1° reanalysis data, new generation Doppler weather radar data and laser raindrop spectrometer data were used to analyze the process of artificial precipitation enhancement of June 1st and 14th, in early summer, 2019 in Erhai Lake Basin; and the effect of precipitation enhancement was examined. The analysis and examination found out that the rainfall process on June 1st was affected by the upper trough and the shear line, while the rainfall process on June 14th was affected by the trough of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. Besides, sufficient water vapor condition and rising movement were the necessary conditions for artificial precipitation enhancement, and the target cloud of artificial precipitation in Erhai Lake Basin in early summer was mixed cloud: the central strength was between 35−40 dBz; the echo top height was 5−7 km; the VIL was greater than 0.4 kg·m−2; and the low-level showed velocity convergence. Furthermore, the radar echo was obviously enhanced, the echo area at 30 dBz was obviously larger and the rainfall intensity was increased after artificial precipitation enhancement. Finally, the rainfall in the affected area was higher than that in the non-affected area, which proved that rain enhancement was effective.
