A Multiple description image coding algorithm based on JPEG2000

A new method is proposed to generate multiple descriptions of images,exploring the features of the bit stream used in the Tier-1 encoder of the JPEG2000 standard.The scheme is compatible with the JPEG2000 encoding algorithm because two descriptions with similar bit rates are generated by combining two JPEG2000 code stream with different bit rates.The method yields excellent performance in both central and side decoders.
