Study of the degradation of acetaldehyde by time-resolved infrared spectrometry

  • The degradation kinetics of acetaldehyde in the gas phase over MCM-41 and Co-MCM-41 under dark condition was studied by time-resolved Infrared spectrometry.It was found that Co-MCM-41 is an efficient catalyst for acetaldehyde degradation under room temperature.The formation of water and acetate over Co-MCM-41 was detected,and their concentrations were increased with the increase of reaction time.By contrast,MCM-41 is a negative catalyst to acetaldehyde degradation even though it showed strong adsorption to acetaldehyde.
