Abstract: To report physical characteristics of the Han people of urban and rural adults in Yunnan Province,eighty-six physical characteristics of 356 males (150 urban males and 206 rural males) and 353 females (150 urban females and 203 rural females) were investigated in Chenggong,Kunming,Yunnan Province.Twenty-four physical indices were calculated and the distributions were done accordingly.The physical characteristics of the Han people in Yunnan were preliminarily analyzed.The results indicated:①The percentage of the folds on the upper and the percentage of mongoloid fold were low.The frequency of eye fissure stenosis was high,which of male was middle-type and female was external angle-type.The nasal root height was middle-type and the nasal profile was straight.The nasal base was middle,which of male was tiny and female was projecting in the zygomatic projection.The height of ala nasi was middle-type and the maximal diameter of nostrils was oblique.In the breadth of ala nasi,male was wide-type and female is middle-type.The lobe type of round was higher.The upper lip skin height was middle-type and the thickness of lip was mainly middle.Hair color was black,skin color was yellow and the eye color was brown.② Typical physical characteristics of the Han people in Yunnan were dolichocephaly,hypsicephaly,and leptocephaly.They were also hyper-euryprosopy,mesorrhiny,long trunk.In addition,males were medium chest circumference,mesa brachyskelic.While females were broad chest circumference and sub brachyskelic type.Males and females in urban were narrow shoulder breadth,while males and females in rural were broad shoulder breadth.③ The indexes of head and face of Han people in Yunnan were between the North and South Asian type of Mongoloid,their physical characteristics were closer to the North Asian type ethnic groups.The Chinese physique can be classified as Han people,South Asia type ethnic groups and North Asia type ethnic groups,and the physique of Han people is generally close to North Asia type ethnic groups.
