Abstract:
The method of GC/MS was used to analyze the volatile components of vetiver oil which was extracted by ultrasonic method. The potential of vetiver oil as tobacco flavors was firstly evaluated based on the results of the flavor tobacco and the pyrolysis measurement. The main components of vetiver oil were terpenoid compounds, which their contents amounted to 42.52% of the total volatiles. As the main components of vetiver oil,the content of 2-isopropenyl-(+)-2-carene was reached at 11.27%.Application of vetiver oil in the cigarette could increase the richness and the sweet nuances of the cigarette aroma and made smoke soft and fresh. After pyrolysis, the contents of D-limonene and 2(5H)-furanone in cigarette containing the vetiver oil were increased 122.22% and 102.02%,respectively,while the content of nicotine was decreased 42.15%.Results of this study indicated that the vetiver oil not only could improve the cigarette smell, but also effectively reduce the content of nicotine, which exhibited its application value as flavor in cigarette production.
