Abstract:
The expansion capacity of plant population is closely related to seed disperse efficiency. And the most nasty invasive weeds in Yunnan are Compositae plants with wind dispersal seed.To study the wind dispersal traits, seeds of 7 common Compositae in Yunnan,Ageratinaadenophora,Eupatorium odoratum,Senecioscandens,Laggerapterodonta,Youngia japonica,Taraxacummongolicum, and Vernoniaesculenta were selected, morphological characteristics of pappose seeds were studied based on comparative analysis.Meanwhile, manipulated experiments were conducted to reveal dynamic features of seeds in vertical and horizontal flying and the relationship between seed morphological characteristics and wind dispersal characteristics was analyzed. The results showed that: (1) There was a significant difference in the size of reproductive organs (seeds) and the wind dispersal structure (pappus) in all 7 species.(2) The seed settlement velocities of the 7 species were 40.1—81.6 cm/s,VernoniaesculentaTaraxacummongolicumSenecioscandensYoungiajaponicaEupatorium odoratumAgeratinaadenophoraLaggerapterodonta. The horizontal dispersal distance of seeds was LaggerapterodontaAgeratinaadenophoraEupatorium odoratumYoungia japonicaSenecioscandensTaraxacummongolicumVernoniaesculenta.Invasive species showed stronger wind dispersal capacity than other weeds except Laggerapterodonta.(3)The seed settlement velocity of 7 species was significantly positively correlated with seed length, seed width, number of pappus, pappus length, and seed length/pappus length ratio, but not correlated to the seed length/seed width ratio. The horizontal dispersal distance was significantly negatively correlated with seed length, seed width, number of pappus, pappus length, and seed length/pappus length ration, but not correlated to the seed length/seed width ratio.Seed horizontal dispersal distance was significantly negatively correlated with seed settlement velocity.Seed settlement velocity and horizontal dispersal distance was affected by the comprehensive morphological characteristics of pappose seeds.
