Basic notions of atom cooling and trapping——the Magneto-optical Trap (MOT)

  • 摘要: 讨论了磁光阱的基本原理——光作用力理论和实验方法:用1对反向电流线圈和3对相互垂直的(上下左右前后)的圆偏振激光束照射气体原子,使原子受到耗散力被冷却,而且还会因受到非均匀光电场的梯度力作用而被囚禁与光束交汇中心,从而达到冷却囚禁原子的目的,为实现玻色-爱因斯坦凝聚奠定了基础.

     

    Abstract: The theory of light force and the basic notions of atom cooling and trapping are discussed.The techrigue is by using a magnetic field gradient produced by a quadrupole field and three pairs of circularly polarized,counterpropagating optical beams.Then the atoms in the trap will be cooled by a dissipative force,and will be trapped in the center of the trap by a restoring force.The methods make it possible to realize BEC (Bose Einstein Condensate).
