Abstract:
The corrosion behavior of cold rolled steel in hydrochloric acid, oxalic acid and nitric acid media in the presence of various concentrations of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide was studied using weight loss measurements. Results obtained revealed that hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide is a very good inhibitor for cold rolled steel in hydrochloric acid, and the adsorption of the inhibitor on the cold rolled steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.Experimental data also indicated that the effect of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide on cold rolled steel corrosion is slight in oxalic acid solutions, and it was found that hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide as an accelerator of cold rolled steel corrosion in nitric acid media.
