Abstract:
By using balloon sounding data at the same site, the quality of wind profile radar data was evaluated at Simao Station from January to June 2023. To further test the accuracy and availability of wind profile radar data at Simao Station, the differences of wind observational data under different strong weather conditions were also analyzed in combination with the data of Doppler weather radar and automatic weather station. The results showed that: ① the wind profile radar at Simao Station had strong detection ability, with the data acquisition rates over 80% from surface to middle of the troposphere, and an effective detection altitude of about 5 km. ② The vertical wind profiles of the wind profile radar and the balloon sounding data displayed consistent trends, and the wind profile radar data at Simao Station had good reliability. ③ The observational quality of wind profile radar for
V wind was superior to that for
U wind. The levels, where the correlation coefficients were greater than 0.6 and the root mean square errors were less than 6.5 m/s for both
U and
V winds, corresponded to the effective detection height of the radar. ④ Under different strong weather conditions, the wind profile radar data at Simao Station still had sufficient accuracy and availability, and some mesoscale and microscale weather systems could be observed on the wind plume graph.
