Abstract:
We compared edge effect of exotic earthworms (P.corethrurus) and environmental factors in two adjacent forest communities by field survey in the Xishuangbanna tropical area of SW China. The exotic earthworm displayed an edge effect distribution, the density and biomass of exotic earthworm in the forest edge were higher than that in interior of secondary forest and lower than that in interior of rubber plantation ;From the edge to the rubber plantation, the earthworm abundance tend to increase, and it decreased along the distance from the edge to the secondary forest interior .The abundance and biomass of earthworms were positively correlated to soil pH and negatively correlated to floor litter and soil mass water content significantly, respectively. The result from stepwise multiple regression indicated that the floor litter and soil pH are significant predictors of the earthworm abundance and biomass. Our findings suggested that the distribution of the exotic earthworm P.corethrurus is affected by edge effects which is correlated with the change of environmental variables in forest edge.
